Summary

Project Description: "Encased" is an Augmented Reality proof of concept made for the client ThermoFisher Scientific. Within this concept, we explored the possibilities of the Hololens and how each possibility could be used to make a game with underlying training purposes.

The biggest challenge for this project was working with a client for the first time and adhering to their feedback as well as using a quite new technological device such as the Hololens without having programmers in the team.

My contributions

This project has been created during my second year at Breda University of Applied Sciences. The biggest challenge within this block would have been that we had no programmers in the team to help our team consisting out of six designers. We worked for our client to create a puzzle game due to the client not wanting a game we change this objective into a technical demo showing the Hololens capabilities instead.

In the section down below I will go into more detail about my contributions and challenges, more information can be provided on request:

    UI/UX design:

  • As UI/UX designer I worked together with Marvin Damstra on the creation of in-depth user personas and journeys to understand our client.
  • Another topic I worked on is the iteration upon different design ideas based on feedback, altering flow charts, and wireframes to fit these new designs.
  • Creating prototypes and testing these with user tests has been something I also contributed to. These tests helped us getting more insights into usability and helped us reach new design conclusions.

    Additional design:

  • During encased I worked together with my team to maintain a good feedback loop with our client. Due to their wishes changing we swapped from the goal of making a game into a technical demo which would show them the capabilities of the Hololens instead.
  • My biggest contribution has been on the technical side by doing all the initial setups and research regarding making the Hololens SDK work with our version control software as well as the emulator.
